DFL:Governor Clinging To “Dead” Borrowing Proposal

Minnesota Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher says Governor Pawlenty’s proposal to borrow money for operating costs and paying back over 10-20 years is like being pregnant for that long. It’s not a position you want to be in. The Speaker says the Governor’s borrowing scheme is about 1/6th of the solution and is an admission that revenue is needed to solve a looming budget deficit. The Governor vetoed a DFL backed bill that raised taxes on the top 2% of income earners and a tax on alcohol that would have raised the same amount of revenue.
