We’ve heard a lot of what ranked choice voting or instant runoff voting means to voters this year in Minneapols, but what about the candidates? Matt Sampson is a campaign worker for Minneapolis Ward 6 Councilman Robert Lilligren. The UpTake’s Craig Stellmacher ran into him right outside the polls on election day. They talk about how the new voting system has already produced some interesting results, in that two of Robert Lilligren’s opponents, Laura Jean and Mike Tupper, campaigned together and cooperated against the incumbent for his Ward 6 City Council seat.
Sampson also talks about how the system discourages negative campaigning.
