The UpTake Denied Access to Newt Gingrich Press Conference

The UpTake was denied access to what was billed as an open press conference a private event with Newt Gingrich and Tom Emmer this afternoon at the Marriott Hotel in Minneapolis. Former House Speaker Gingrich was in town to raise money for Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Emmer. Governor Tim Pawlenty was also on hand earlier in the day for an 11 a.m. “round table” discussion. That event reportedly cost $5,000 to attend, followed by a $1,000 a head luncheon.

Update: The UpTake was denied access to today’s press conference despite being credentialed through both the Minnesota Senate and House, to say nothing of the First Amendment, as non-partisan media. In our video, however, we mistakenly implied that Minnesota Republican Party communications director Mark Drake had agreed to credential us for today’s press conference, which it turns out he had not.
