2011 Legislative Session

In what even Republicans admit is a symbolic move, the Minnesota Senate Rules Committee voted to reduce per diem payments to Senators by $10 a day. The Committee also voted to eliminate out of state travel reimbursements for Senators and staff.

Senator Tom Bakk voiced some concerns about the rule changes, noting that legislators have had only one 5% pay increase in the 18 years that he has been serving in the Senate. He also noted that the non-partisan training that staff receive at out of state conferences is very important.
