DFL Rep Simon Rejects Idea Of Bloated Government

Rejecting the notion that government is an “ever-growing blob eating up our tax dollars”, Representative Steve Simon (DFL) points out three facts that counter popular myths: State workers account for only eight percent of the state budget including salary and benefits; We have fewer state employees today than we had 10 years ago; We are the tenth leanest state in the country, when you measure state workers per capita. During Omnibus State Government Finance Bill hearings, which ultimately pass the Republican-controlled chamber 75-61, Simon refers to Rep. Keith Downey’s call in January to “starve the beast” and cut government by 15 percent.
