Firedoglake Prophesized Attacks on Medicaid, Collective Bargaining Rights

The UpTake’s Sam Mayfield spoke to Marcy Wheeler of the blog Firedoglake at the National Conference for Media Reform in Boston last weekend. After appearing on a panel about how Americans get their news of international events, Wheeler recalled Firedoglake’s prophesy that — following debate over the health care reform bill — the Republicans would go after Medicaid. Wheeler also argued that the “Cadillac plan” would ultimately hurt unions who had bought health benefits. Now they’re being deprived of the right to even collectively negotiate.

“But it was unpopular then to be critical of anything coming out of the White House,” said Wheeler. “People thought we were trying to sabotage the Democratic Party.”
