Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison says House Speaker John Boehner is having trouble dealing with extreme factions of the Republican Party and that is why there is such stalemate on Washington on solving our economic problems.
Representative Ellison says there is enough overlap between Democratic and Republican views to do the right thing to move the economy forward, and that is pass the surface transportation bill. The bill normally is not a controversial one, but is facing Republican opposition.
President Obama today called upon Congress to pass the bill to keep people employed. Not renewing the legislation could mean thousand of people out of work. The President says 12,000 jobs in Minnesota are dependent on the transportation bill.
Representative Ellison spoke with MinnPost’s Washington Correspondent Devin Henry as part the Minnesota Community Pride Day at the Minnesota State Fair.
