GOP Attempts To “Whittle Away” Abortion Access In MN

“This is a whittling away at abortion access for women” Karen Law of Pro Choice Resources on bill restricting telemedicine abortions.

A bill requiring a doctor be physically present for administering the abortion drug RU-486 instead of using telemedicine is aimed at putting up more barriers to abortion, not safety says Senator John Marty (DFL-Roseville). If the bill authors were concerned about safety, Senator Marty says they would require a doctor for the administration of viagra, which has five times as many deaths per thousand than RU-486.

Bill supporter Senator Gretchen Hoffman (R- Vergas) says without a doctor in the room, nurses face increased liability.

About The UpTake

The UpTake is an independent, nonprofit (501 c 3) online news organization that began its work in 2007 with a few simple ideas: That media should find and tell the truth without fear or favor; that citizens have the tools to report and explain events without relying on news controlled by large corporations; and that it is the duty of citizens to hold power accountable and to make government transparent to the governed.
