A Republican-backed bill to fight welfare fraud by finding fake and duplicate state driver’s licenses revived the debate over the voter photo ID constitutional amendment in the state House. Representative Steve Drazkowski says the Department of Transportation has identified more than 7,000 drivers licenses that are fakes.

That caused Representative Mary Murphy (DFL- Hermantown) to ask Drazkowski, “Did I hear you say that there could be mistakes in government issued identifications?”

Drazkowski said the facial recognition software will strengthen the security of Minnesota’s election system.
