Mike McFadden didn’t have to wait long after the polls closed to find out he had lost his race to Senator Al Franken. CNN called the race right away at 8 p.m. based on exit polls.

“I’m Mike McFadden, and I’m proud to be a Republican”, he told supporters at the Minnesota Republican election night party in Minneapolis.

McFadden thanked the people who had volunteered for his campaign and supported it with donations. “You made me proud.”

Despite a hard fought campaign that ended in a loss, McFadden says he is stronger because of the journey. “We tried our hardest.” “I am so proud of my team, effort and attitude.”

“I had fun. We had fun. We had a blast.”

“Now it would be more fun if I were up here giving you a victory speech, but I’m not.”

McFadden praised Republican Party Chair Keith Downey for putting the party in a better place, and predicted a Republican resurgence in Minnesota. To do so, McFadden said the message “needs to be one of hope and inspiration. Anger doesn’t work.”

“Hold your heads high. The fight has just begun.”
