Fourth Candidate To Enter MN GOP Second Congressional District Primary

MN GOP CD2 Primary Candidates

The Republican primary race for Minnesota’s only open congressional seat is about to get even more crowded. Donald Trump’s Minnesota spokesperson Matthew Erickson says he will file to run in the second congressional race on Tuesday. Erickson is a former campaign manager for David Gerson, a tea party candidate who had the most delegate support going into last months Republican CD2 convention. Gerson lost to former radio talk show host Jason Lewis after several ballots.

John Howe and Darlene Miller are also running in the August primary.

Erickson called into AM950 radio to talk about his candidacy on Thursday. His interview starts at about 20 minutes and 20 seconds into the show.

He said he is getting into the race because he thinks none of the other candidates can win. He chided Lewis’ support of slashing social security as “anarchist talk” from an “extremist” and called Miller “insider lobbyist bought.” Erickson said he wants to put social security in a “lock box.”

Erickson said there is no one like Trump in the second congressional race “so I had to get in.”

The winner of the Republican primary will face DFL endorsed candidate Angie Craig in November.
