All five candidates who are seeking the DFL endorsement for congress in Minnesota’s 8th district hold a forum at the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet.
Attending are Kirsten Hagen Kennedy, Michelle Lee, Jason Metsa, Leah Phifer and Joe Radinovich.
10 days remain until the DFL holds its endorsing convention. A candidate must get 60% of the delegates votes to get the endorsement. An August 14 primary election will ultimately determine who appears on the November ballot as the Democrat.
The race has attracted a large number of candidates since Rep. Rick Nolan (DFL) announced earlier this year that he would not seek reelection. Minnesota’s 8th is a swing district. It voted for Donald Trump in 2016, but also reelected Nolan.
Republican Pete Stauber is unopposed in his campaign for the Republican endorsement. Ray “Skip” Sandman has run as a Green Party candidate in the past and is running as an Independence Party candidate this time.
