Candidates running in the DFL primary US Senate in Minnesota debate at the University of Minnesota Kirby Student Center in Duluth. This is the race for former Senator Al Franken’s seat.

Two of the six candidates running as Democrats — Richard Painter and Ali Chehem Ali participate in the debate

Nick Leonard, Chris Seymore and Gregg Iverson do not attend. Organizers say Sen. Tina Smith did not reply to the invitation to debate. A chair set up for her at the table is vacant.

The primary is August 14.

The debate is organized by Duluth for Clean Water, Twin Ports DSA, Our Revolution Duluth, and UMD College Democrats.

Both Painter and Smith are scheduled to appear in a forum for both Democratic and Republican US Senate candidates at Farmfest on April 7th. The UpTake plans to livestream that debate.
