Should PolyMet be permited to open a sulfide mine near ecologically sensitive areas of Minnesota? Thursday night in Duluth hundreds of people listened to about 55 members of the public including lawmakers testify about the pros and cons of sulfide mining for copper.
Many mining supporters wore blue hats. Pro-environmentalists waved orange towels.
Some residents were concerned about the impact the mine would have on the people who depend on clean water downstream. Others support the mine because of the jobs they believe it will bring.
This was the final public hearing on draft permits for #PolyMet’s proposed NorthMet mine.
