Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton says that the state should bring in an impartial mediator to help resolve the budget impasse between the Governor and the Republican-controlled legislature. Calling it a “political stunt”, the Governor also echoed his refusal of the GOP’s request to meet alone with his commissioners about the budget.
The Dayton team released this graphic at today’s press conference, showing that the GOP falls $5 billion short of state expenditures required by law for Fiscal Year 2012/13.
Dayton is scheduled to meet with Republican leaders tomorrow. Notices are already going out to layoff government employees in case there is no budget agreement before the end of the month.
