Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch says that Republicans have accepted Governor Dayton’s latest offer. Earlier today Governor Dayton announced that he would accept the Republican’s last offer made before the shutdown on July 1s, but with three caveats.
Governor Dayton insists that the Republicans drop the policy issues they had brought to the budget negotiations. Those include voter photo ID, restrictions on abortions, restrictions on stem cell research, vouchers for schools and many others.
Dayton also insisted that the reduction in the state’s workforce not be an arbitrary across the board number, but be based on revenue.
Dayton also wants a $500 million dollar bonding bill passed in a special session.
Dayton says he will call a special session as soon as the legislation can be drawn up to his satisfaction. He and Senator Koch and Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers will continue to meet until the legislation is ready.
