It was debate Number Two for the candidates who want to be Minneapolis’ next mayor. On Wednesday night, the five DFLers in the race were joined for the first time by Cam Winton, an independent candidate. Also participating for the first time was newly announced DFL candidate Jim Thomas. The debate took place at Solomon’s Porch, 100 W. 46th Street, in South Minneapolis, and was moderated by the League of Women Voters.
The DFL candidates, in alphabetical order, were Mark Andrew, Jackie Cherryhomes, Betsy Hodges, Don Samuels and Gary Schiff. The DFL holds its caucuses April 18th and will begin the process of endorsing a candidate for the November 5 election.
Only Schiff said he would abide by the party’s June 15 endorsement and not run if he didn’t win it. Andrew, Cherryhomes, Hodges, Samuels all gave “we’ll-see” answers. Thomas said he would not abide by the endorsement.
