Today’s UpTake: Newt Gingrich Stumps For Emmer

The new owners of Sun Country Airlines spent $150,000 supporting a group that ran ads for Anti-Gay Candidate For Governor Tom Emmer

Two Republican presidential hopefuls for 2012 will gather in the same room in the Minneapolis Marriott today on behalf of GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will be in town to raise dough for Emmer, and current Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty will also be on hand for an 11 a.m. “round table” discussion. The event costs $5,000 to attend, followed by a $1,000 a head luncheon. Needless to say, The UpTake probably won’t make it in the door. However, we will cover State Rep. Tom Rukavina’s (Democratic-Farm-Labor) simultaneous press conference, where he’ll discuss job-creation measures and Emmer’s record.

Tune in later today for replays of Vice President Joe Biden’s stump speech for Mark Dayton, and the Early Childhood Alliance’s Minnesota governor forum, which Dayton and Independent Tom Horner attended (and not Emmer). Interestingly, both of those events were held yesterday at Macalester College in St. Paul. Take Action Minnesota also held a press conference yesterday, which it used to attack Horner and accuse him of coddling to corporate interests.=
