Former White House Counsel John Yoo was the featured speaker yesterday at a St. Thomas University School of Law conference on “Presidential Power: Prudence or Perversion.” Yoo, who is now a professor at the University of California Berkeley School of Law, joined his former White House associate, Robert Delahunty, now a law professor at St. Thomas. Yoo authored the infamous memo allowing President Bush to torture captives as part of the war an terror. Delahunty is credited with assisting Yoo. Both men have become lightning rods for torture protest groups. A variety of anti-torture and antiwar groups met yesterday on the mall outside St. Thomas Law School campus to peaceably voice their opinions. Some went inside to passively observe the conference.
