Emotional Mayor Describes Flood Disaster To Lawmakers

This Fall, Zumbro Falls Mayor Alan VanDeWalker watched as flooding wiped out the town he’s presided over for 20 years. He told a Minnesota legislative special session hearing that without help, he won’t have a town left. 19 businesses and 40 houses were destroyed. That’s 50 percent of the homes in a town of 200 and all of the businesses.

Lawmakers are meeting in what is expected to be a one-day special session to approve disaster relief for areas of Minnesota hit by the floods.
