Minnesota’s Republican leaders have named the new State House committee chairs for the 2011-2012 legislative biennium. They are as follows:

Agriculture and Rural Development Policy and Finance Committee: Rep. Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake)
Capital Investment Committee: Rep. Larry Howes (R-Walker)
Civil Law Committee: Rep. Torrey Westrom (R-Elbow Lake)
Commerce and Regulatory Reform Committee: Rep. Joe Hoppe (R-Chaska)
Education Finance Committee: Rep. Pat Garofalo (R-Farmington)
Education Reform Committee: Rep. Sondra Erickson (R-Princeton)
Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Policy and Finance Committee: Rep. Tom Hackbarth (R-Cedar)
Ethics Committee: Rep. Steve Smith (R-Mound)
Government Operations and Elections Committee: Rep. Joyce Peppin (R-Rogers)
Health and Human Services Finance Committee: Rep. Jim Abeler (R-Anoka)

Full committee rosters are expected to be released in December.

Jacob Wheeler

In addition to shooting videos for The UpTake, Jacob Wheeler is a contributing editor at the progressive political magazine In These Times, publishes the Glen Arbor Sun in his native Michigan, and authored "Between Light and Shadow," a recent book about the Guatemalan adoption industry. Wheeler's stories have appeared in such magazines as the Utne Reader, Earth Island Journal, Rotarian and Teaching Tolerance magazine, and newspapers including the San Francisco Chronicle and Christian Science Monitor. He speaks fluent Spanish, German and Danish.
