Linda Slocum, Kate Knuth, Terry Morrow and Lyndon Carlson will hold a news conference where they will speak about HF 7 — an attempt to repeal a 1984 law passed to eliminate gender-based wage disparities in public employment in Minnesota local governments. According to a June report by the Woman’s Foundation of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota, white women earn 76 cents on the dollar compared to their male counterparts. Disparities are even worse for African American and Hispanic women. Last year the Office of Minnesota Management and Budget confirmed wage inequities still exists. As directed by the LGPEA, the MMB gathered information from cities, municipalities and school districts and worked with local governments to make successful corrections. This resulted in an average increase of pay for women from $16.27 to $17.86. Support this story and all the stories from The Uptake. Donate.
