MN GOP Fails (so far) On Reform Pledge Says Thissen By Michael McIntee | March 21, 2011 LikeTweet EmailPrint More More on Minnesota Subscribe to Minnesota Follow this author Rep. Paul Thissen and Sen. Terri Bonoff House Minority Leader Paul Thissen ( DFL- Richfield/ SW Minneapolis) says despite promises of reform and “tough choices” during the campaign season, Republicans are offering the “same pass-the-buck Pawlenty policies that have squeezed the middle class with higher taxes, tuitions and fees and you can see their budget bills coming out doing exactly that.” Thissen says the Republican House tax bill will increase property taxes over four years by $1.4 Billion. “We got to stop letting the Republicans say they are not raising taxes, because we know that their budget is filled with hidden taxes that take money away from middle class and working family’s pockets. And we got to hold the Republicans accountable to some level of honesty as we discuss these budgets. “The Republicans cannot deny nonpartisan analysis that says absolutely objectively that they are raising property taxes… I think it’s just plain dishonest.” Thissen says because of the Republican self-imposed budget deadline this week there will be very little time for people to read budget bills that will run hundreds of pages.
