Minnesota Legislators questioned why the state should help pay for a stadium for a billionaire before a House committee voted 9-6 against a Vikings stadium plan on Monday night.

Vikings officials defended the stadium plan saying it would be a public, not a private facility, but couldn’t answer questions about how much the team would make from the stadium.

Author of the plan, Representative Morrie Lanning (R-Moorhead) said this proposal is the best the state has had during his time at the legislature.

Monday’s vote puts the project in serous doubt since the legislature in nearing adjournment.
