(Morgan, MN) U.S. Senator Al Franken’s first debate of the 2014 Minnesota campaign season was Wednesday at FarmFest.

This was the only debate that Senator Franken (DFL) will be doing before Labor Day. And since it’s before Minnesota’s August 12 primary, there are quite a few contenders appeared with him. On the Farmfest panel were three Republican Party candidates — Mike McFadden, Jim Abeler and David Carlson as well as Independence Party candidate Kevin Terrell.

The focus was on issues facing farmers and rural families, but many of those issues such as the economy reach beyond the corn and soybean fields. MN Farm Network’s Emery Klevin will was the moderator.

Following the U.S. Senate debate, Minnesota Congressional candidates debated the rural issues. The main contenders in Minnesota’s 1st, 6th and 7th Congressional districts were be there to face off against each other.
