Landmark WI Redistricting Ruling Could Resonate Nationally

A three-judge federal panel has ruled that Wisconsin’s political maps are unconstitutionally drawn and violate First Amendment rights, but state Republican legislative leadership has given essentially a blank check to two expensive law firms to fight the ruling, using taxpayer money. The ruling could affect several other states with similar redistricting issues.

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Citizens Redistricting Commission gathered to hold final discussions on a proposed Minnesota redistricting map before the panel of 15 commissioners officially submits that map to the state’s judiciary on October 21.
