Minneapolis Jimmy John’s In Crosshairs Of AZ Boycott
Story by Bill Sorem
A group of energetic young activists formed up in front of Jimmy John’s Sandwich Shop at 600 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, Monday afternoon, June 14. Jimmy John’s is headquartered in Arizona and is one of the businesses target as part of the Arizona boycott in answer to the passage of SB170, a law seen as racist in frighteningly sinister by most civil rights activists.
The demonstration was loud, but peaceful. There was a cordial exchange with the owner and the crowd was supervised by building security and the Minneapolis Police.
The local franchise owner says he personally doesn’t support the Arizona law, and the boycott just hurts local workers.
Boycott organizers say Jimmy John’s corporate owner has constantly funded supporters of the Arizona law.
