Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Hennepin County Government Center, Occupy Homes plans to once again block U.S. Bank from auctioning John and Lucinda Vinje’s Bloomington, Minnesota, home. Six weeks ago, protests by Occupy Homes successfully postponed the first attempted sheriff sale of the Vinje home, increasing the public pressure on the mortgage lender, U.S. Bank, to renegotiate with the Vinjes to keep them in their home. This time, Occupy Homes and the Vinjes will be flanked by war veterans standing in solidarity. John Vinje himself is a Vietnam veteran.

“Only one in 12 Americans have served in the military, but one in four people suffering homelessness are veterans,” said Larry Johnson, President of Veterans for Peace. “Since U.S. Bank widely promotes their support of veterans, I can’t imagine any acceptable outcome other than doing everything necessary to help the Vinjes keep their home.”

For the last eight months, John and Lucinda Vinje have been fighting to save their home. They are working with Occupy Homes, which has posted two improbable victories with Bobby Hull and Monique White, two homeowners who successfully forced the banks to the negotiating table and are still in their homes as a result.
