NAACP Minneapolis President Nekima Levy-Pounds says Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman needs to be replaced. She is fielding candidates to run against Freeman and did not rule herself out as a candidate.
Freeman who has served as Hennepin County attorney from 1990-1999 and since 2006 told reporters today he plans to run for another term.
Levy-Pounds is also recruiting candidates to run against Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges. She says they both have “blood on their hands” in the police killing of Jamar Clark.
Freeman Wednesday announced that he will not press charges against the Minneapolis police officers who shot and killed Clark.
Supporters started cheering when a reporter asked Levy-Pounds if she would run against Freeman. She said she was better as an outside agitator, but didn’t dismiss the idea entirely.
