Hopeful Sign For Occupy-Backed Homeowner Facing Foreclosure
By: Jacob Wheeler, UpTake Reporter
For months US Bank has denied having any control over foreclosure proceedings against North Minneapolis homeowner Monique White, but now US Bank officials are working quietly behind the scenes, apparently to help her.
Last month, White confronted US Bank CEO Richard Davis at the bank’s shareholders meeting. Since then US Bank Vice President Bill Parker has corresponded with White, a single mother who works two jobs and is struggling to keep her home.
White faces a court date later this week that could either lead to an eviction or a renegotiated mortgage. But on Tuesday, US Bank sent a courier to retrieve key income documents from White’s son, Demarlo, which Parker had requested.
US Bank has told The UpTake that Freddie Mac, not US Bank is bringing the foreclosure. US Bank originated White’s loan.
Occupy Homes, which began defending White’s foreclosed home in mid-November, and has staged numerous rallies in her defense, now believes it is one step closer to an improbable victory.
